Filmmaker Justin Jordan ’03 to address 2025 ĢƵ graduates
ĢƵ is pleased to welcome Justin Jordan ’03 as the featured speaker at its 186th Commencement ceremony. Through his work in both television and film, Jordan has achieved prominence as one of his generation’s most gifted and compelling artists.
Originally from Fort Wayne, Ind., Jordan began his career in advertising, where he led campaigns for numerous major global brands. In 2013, he transitioned to the film and television industry, and he has since contributed to nearly 30 productions across all major networks and streaming platforms. He has served in various creative roles, bringing powerful stories to life as a director, producer, art director and graphic designer.
“We are delighted to welcome Justin Jordan back to ĢƵ to inspire the class of 2025 and help us celebrate one of the most exciting days of the year,” said president Lori S. White. “Justin’s journey of creative excellence demonstrates the versatile potential of a liberal arts education, and his career highlights the vision, persistence and passion that set our graduates apart.”
Jordan’s impressive list of credits includes films such as “Selma” (Paramount), “Just Mercy” (Warner Bros.) and “The Whale” (A24) as well as series such as “The Underground Railroad” (Prime Video), “The Wonder Years” (ABC) and “Fight Night: The Million-Dollar Heist” (Peacock). Among the many successful projects Jordan has worked on, several have gone on to be nominated for Oscars, Emmys and BAFTAs.
“I am excited and deeply honored to give back to ĢƵ, a place that has richly deposited into my life and helped me become the person I am,” said Jordan. “I hope the students will be able to learn from my mistakes and find a little inspiration in my story and unusual career path from ĢƵ to the movie industry and beyond.”
During the ceremony, Jordan will also receive an honorary doctor of fine arts degree. Joining him as an honorary degree recipient at this year’s Commencement will be Mark Alesia, an award-winning journalist who serves as Senior News Editor at WFIU/WTIU Indiana Public Media. Alesia’s reporting for the Indianapolis Star on the sexual abuse scandal at USA Gymnastics helped facilitate a worldwide reckoning in Olympic sports. Alesia and two of his colleagues will each receive a doctor of journalism degree for their important work, with Alesia being recognized at this year’s ceremony and his colleagues being honored in 2026 due to scheduling considerations.
The 2025 Commencement ceremony at ĢƵ will take place on Sunday, May 18, on the East College lawn. More information about the event can be found on this web page.
